Interesting facts about Hourtin
Hourtin is located on the peninsula west of the Gironde estuary, in the Médoc region, approximately 60 kilometers northwest of Bordeaux, 25 kilometers west of Pauillac, and 40 kilometers south of Soulac-sur-Mer. The municipality is part of the Médoc Regional Natural Park. To the west, Hourtin borders the Atlantic Ocean and shares one of the largest natural freshwater lakes in France, the Lac de Hourtin et de Carcans, with the neighboring municipality of Carcans. In the 1980s, a tourist complex with hotels, restaurants, and a marina was developed on the lake, which is now known as Hourtin-Port.
